Pollinators
Why should we care?
Our environmental in Ojai would look very different without the help of our pollinators. Pollinators can help to maintain biodiversity helping our native plants to survive disease. They also ensure fruit and seed production in our crops and native species of plants. Without the help of butterflies, bees, wasps, ants, beetles, and lizards we would lose 80% of different food crops.
Pollinators are important for our plants and our general survival as humans. However, loss of habitat the over-use of pesticides has caused a massive decline in pollinator populations.
What can you do?
Plant native plants that pollinators need to survive and reproduce in your backyard. Here’s a list of plants that pollinators love: sages, california lilac, silver bush lupine, and redbud.
If you are going to use pesticides limit the amount used and do not spray during blooming times.
How to Get Involved
Join GVP Youth Council
This is an opportunity for the teens in our community to pick a restoration project of their choosing, help build a restoration plan, and implement that plan.
