Ojai Valley Land Conservancy Nursery Internship
About the Program:
Are you interested in connecting to your local ecology? Are you curious about biology or environmental science? Are you looking for a paid job to learn important and applicable skills? The Ojai Valley Land Conservancy partners with The Green Valley Project to provide a paid internship in a native plant nursery. This is an entry level year long program that walks through land conservation and habitat restoration through the lens of nursery work. Day to day, interns work in the nursery at the Ojai Meadows Preserve watering, transplanting plants, collecting, cleaning, and sowing seed, and cleaning pots. Interns will learn plant identification, seed conservation, plant propagation, and plant care. This program is perfect for students interested in studying environmental science, curious about the natural world, or simply want to work outdoors. We are accepting interns from freshman to junior year, with the opportunity to continue the program for more than one year.
Time Commitment:
The internship is flexible to accommodate the standard high school student's schedule. Required 3-6 hours a week, and working Saturday mornings. When interns start, we make an agreed upon schedule that works for everyone. Interns are required to honor this schedule and request change in shifts a week in advance. When school is in session, work is available after school hours and/or on Saturdays. During school breaks, schedules may change to working hours between 8am-5pm within an agreed upon schedule.
Starting wage is $16.00/hour.
