Nasturtium

General information:

Nasturtium is an annual flower type plant, and is easily identified due to its unique appearance. Not only is this plant beautiful, but it is a beneficial flower as well! It helps fight pests, beautify a garden, and is even edible! It grows well in containers, as well as in the ground. 

Appearance:

Nasturtium has a unique appearance, as the leaves are a round, lily-pad type shape. The colors are vibrant, and range from yellow, red, and orange.

Plant growth, season, and dormancy:

This plant grows at a rapid rate, and can grow 1-10 ft tall and 1-3 ft wide. Its flowering season is Summer and Fall. Lastly, they are a summer deciduous plant.

Nasturtium Tropaeolum majus

Landscaping information:

Nasturtium is a full sun plant, but can tolerate partial sun. It requires well draining yet moist soil. It also prefers soil with a neutral p.H. of 6.0-8.0. They also do well in nutrient poor soils, and do not require additional fertilizer. 

How to use: 

It is often used as ground cover, to eat, a companion plant, and as a trap crop.
