General information:
California fuchsia is a willow-herb that is native to the California foothills, and in coastal areas. It is often found in creeks, seeps, and springs. It flowers best when it's in direct sunlight, and requires little to no supplemental watering. This plant is incredibly fire resistant, thus making it a perfect addition to any dry area garden! Lastly, it is the best plant for hummingbirds, as its coloring and structure allows for hummingbirds to collect its nectar well.
Appearance:
California fuchsia has thin stems with rounded, small leaves. The flowers of the plant are typically red to fuchsia.
Plant growth, season, and dormancy:
This plant is a perennial herb type of plant, and can grow between 0.25-1.5 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide. It grows rapidly, and is a winter semi-deciduous plant. Its flowering seasons are summer and fall.
Landscaping information:
California fuchsia requires both full sun and partial shade, and is a low moisture plant. It requires watering at least once a month, and drains at a medium to fast pace. It is easy to moderately easy to care for due to its lax watering regimen. It tolerates clay and sandy soil with a p.H. level of 6-8. Lastly, it can tolerate temperatures as low as 0ºF.
